OCD counseling in Colorado Springs, CO
Do you feel like your thoughts are out of control?
You keep trying to stop them, but nothing seems to work.
Maybe you can’t stop thinking about a specific thought that makes you worry that you may actually be someone you don’t want to be. Or maybe you feel like your anxiety is out of control.
It’s not uncommon for those with OCD to feel like they might do something to hurt someone they love accidentally or even on purpose. You know that’s not your actual desire, but you may fear that it secretly is anyway. You logically know that these thoughts don’t make sense, but they feel so real that you can’t dismiss them.
If you're afraid that you’re stuck this way, know that you’re not alone, you’re not crazy, and there is help and hope for you!
You may be noticing:
Thoughts that feel real that are in opposition to your core values.
Worry that you will act in a way that could harm someone else.
Feeling the need to compulsively act to quiet your thoughts, such as praying a certain prayer a certain number of times, checking locks repetitively, questioning information that was given to you.
Difficulty separating imagined scenarios from what is happening in the here and now.
OCD counseling can help.
You can learn how to stop from letting OCD thoughts (sometimes referred to as intrusive thoughts) take over your life.
Learn how to respond when these thoughts show up.
Eradicate the need for compulsive behavior.
Create a life where OCD thoughts are not in control.
Here’s what we’ll do together
OCD counseling can help you rebuild your trust in yourself.
There are many layers to OCD work. I believe, and have seen from clients, that with intentional effort and a commitment, you can learn a way of responding to your OCD thoughts that teaches you that you don’t need to respond compulsively to quiet them.
We will begin with an initial intake session, during which we’ll review intake forms, discuss your relationship history, explore your upbringing, and identify the reasons you're seeking therapy at this time. We will also discuss treatment goals and where you’re at in your OCD journey.
I utilize a model of treatment called Inference-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy (ICBT for short) when treating OCD. This model teaches you to view OCD as a great story-teller, to the point that you believe the story that it tells you. It differs widely from the popular ERP model that is widely used for OCD treatment. I am happy to discuss the differences with you and why I chose ICBT over ERP if you would like.
ICBT is a 12-step model that generally takes approximately 12-20 sessions to complete. However, clients often discover things that come up along the way that they would like to pause to address, so treatment can take longer from start to finish and that’s ok! While you should strive to be intentional if you truly want to work on your OCD, this is a journey, we’re not in a rush here.

FAQs
-
OCD is a condition characterized by one being unable to let thoughts go and instead ruminate on them to the point that the person feels that they are true and experiences them as real.
There are differing schools of thought on the categorization of OCD as an anxiety disorder, a doubting disorder, or something else. -
Therapy is not a quick fix and I do not make any guarantees regarding length of treatment. It is a journey of healing. It is estimated that it will take 12-20 sessions to complete all of the ICBT modules.
-
The first session is a full 60 minutes that is spent doing an intake that consists of family of origin history, history of your OCD, understanding what culminated to bring you into counseling at this time, and reviewing intake paperwork and assessments.
After the intake session, we will begin to cover the ICBT modules. The first 4 modules include a lot of education about the model and how OCD works. You are provided with worksheets that help you process through your OCD that you take home and we discuss at the next session, followed by an introduction of the next module (if you are ready to progress forward).
